What happens when you are a teenager with braces and want to undergo jaw surgery to correct a significant overbite and the outcome is far from ideal? You become an orthodontist to help others, as is the case with Dr. Jennifer Garza. Driven by a need to determine why her orthodontic treatment and surgery failed, she started her orthodontic career as an orthodontic assistant and began her undergraduate studies at the University of Denver. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, with an Honor’s Thesis in Neurobiology, all within 3 years. She graduated from the University of Iowa, College of Dentistry along with becoming Chief Resident at New York University for her Certificate in Orthodontics. Because of her outstanding performance as Chief Resident, she was awarded the prestigious Theodore L. Jerrold Memorial Award for Clinical Excellence upon graduation. In her never-ending drive to ensure that what happened to her as a teenager would never happen to any of her patients, she furthered her education with a two-year course in Advanced Education in Orthodontics at the University of Detroit while balancing residency and then private practice.
Dr. Garza brings 29 years of experience in Orthodontics. And now, her future is here alongside of the well-respected dental practice and team of Happy Smiles. It is evident that her passion is orthodontics, and having fun while doing it!
On a personal note, Dr. Jennifer Garza was born and raised in Colorado and is the oldest of three sisters. She has been married to her high school sweetheart, Frank, for almost 28 years. They have one German Shepherd and four kitties, which are their four-legged fur babies. They both enjoy traveling, skiing, cycling, spending time with good friends and family.
